🥣 Base Mixes
Mr Johnsons Supreme Rat & Mouse Mix Muesli-style variety mix • great for scatter/foraging feeding
🐀 Base Mix

Using this mix as a base

This is a muesli-style base mix. Many keepers combine it with a plainer, more uniform feed (or another base mix) to help reduce selective feeding while keeping meals interesting.

Suggested base mix ratios

  • Balanced blend: 50% Mr Johnsons Rat & Mouse Mix + 50% second base mix / nuggets
  • Higher variety: 60% Mr Johnsons + 40% plainer mix (adjust based on what gets left behind)
  • Fussy eaters: start 60%/40% and tweak over 2–3 weeks for best results
Tip: introduce changes gradually over 10–14 days and keep an eye on what’s being picked out. If selective feeding is heavy, increase the plainer component.

Composition

  • Torrified wheat
  • Flaked peas
  • Wheat extrusions*
  • Flaked maize
  • Whole oats
  • Grass nuts
  • Wheat extrusions*
  • Whole maize

  • Flaked soya beans
  • Dried carrot
  • Mealworms
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Verm-X blend

*Note: “Extrusions” are cooked, expanded pieces used for texture and to carry vitamins/minerals.

Fruity Rabbit Base Mix Colourful base mix • ideal for DIY dry mix building
🥣 Base Mix

Using Fruity Rabbit as a base mix

This mix is designed to be used as part of a multi-component diet, rather than fed alone. It works particularly well when paired with a plainer base mix or nuggets/balancer to even out nutrition while keeping meals interesting.

Suggested base mix ratios

  • Balanced blend: 50% Fruity Rabbit + 50% second base mix
  • Higher variety: 60% Fruity Rabbit + 40% nuggets or plainer mix
  • Fussy eaters: up to 70% Fruity Rabbit, adjusted gradually
Important: Always introduce new foods gradually over 10–14 days. Monitor weight, condition, and food selection and adjust ratios as needed.

Mr Johnsons Special Rabbit Mix No added pellets • high fibre feel • great for mixing & scatter feeding
🐇 Base Mix

Using this mix as a base

A classic no-added-pellets muesli-style mix with a higher fibre profile. For DIY feeding, it pairs nicely with a more uniform nugget/balancer to help reduce picky picking, while still keeping that “forage me!” variety.

Suggested base mix ratios

  • Balanced blend: 50% Special Rabbit Mix + 50% nuggets / plainer base mix
  • Higher variety: 60% Special Rabbit Mix + 40% plainer mix (watch for leftovers)
  • Selective feeders: start 50/50 and increase the uniform portion if needed
Tip: If you’re using this in a custom mix, keep changes gradual (10–14 days) and adjust based on what’s left behind.

Marriage’s Pygmy Goat Mix Condition-supporting textured mix • apple, carrot & herb inclusions
🐐 Base Mix

Using this mix as a base

This is a textured conditioning-style mix with a varied appearance and a decent level of energy from cereals and oil sources. For custom small animal dry diet building, it is best used as a component rather than a sole feed, pairing well with plainer mixes or nuggets to help balance texture and reduce selective feeding.

Suggested base mix ratios

  • Balanced blend: 40–50% Marriage’s Pygmy Goat Mix + 50–60% plainer base mix / nuggets
  • Higher variety: 55% goat mix + 45% second base mix, adjusting if favourite pieces are picked out first
  • For custom DIY blends: use alongside lighter cereal / fibre components to keep the overall mix practical and varied
Pack highlights: specifically balanced for pygmy goats, with added apple and carrot plus a special herb blend. As with the other mixes here, this section focuses on the ingredient and nutrition reference rather than species feeding directions.

Composition

  • Micronised flaked barley
  • Micronised flaked peas
  • Dehulled soya (bean) meal
  • Wheatfeed pellets
  • Cereal straw pellets (partially treated)
  • Micronised flaked maize
  • Wheatfeed
  • Oatfeed pellets
  • Chopped dried lucern
  • Vegetable oil (rapeseed oil, soya bean oil)

  • Full fat soya (bean) meal
  • Sodium chloride
  • Soya (bean) hulls
  • Apple (0.5%)
  • Carrots

Note: the pack lists several soya-based ingredients and oils. It also references genetically modified soya for some of those components.

Analytical constituents

Crude protein15.2%
Crude fibre7.7%
Crude fat4.6%
Crude ash7.6%
Sodium0.5%
Feeding note: because this is a richer mixed feed with different textures, it works best in a thoughtfully balanced blend rather than as the only dry component in a custom small animal mix.
Dodson & Horrell Build Up Conditioning Mix High oil conditioning mix • fortified with added lysine, yeast & herbs
💪 Base Mix

Using this mix as a base

This is a conditioning-style mix with a slightly richer nutritional profile than a simple maintenance feed. It includes oil sources, amino acid support and a fortified vitamin/mineral package, so for DIY custom mixing it is usually best used as a supporting component alongside plainer mixes rather than as the sole dry feed in a blend.

Suggested base mix ratios

  • Balanced blend: 35–50% Build Up Conditioning Mix + 50–65% plainer base mix / nuggets
  • Higher condition focus: 50% Build Up + 50% lighter cereal / fibre mix, while monitoring what gets selected first
  • DIY variety blends: use smaller amounts if you want the extra oil and conditioning support without making the whole mix too rich
Pack highlights: performance-level nutrition, high in oil for condition and slow-release energy, added L-Lysine to support muscle condition and top-line, probiotic live Actisaf yeast for digestive efficiency, and a fully fortified vitamin and mineral profile.

Composition

  • Flaked barley
  • Oatfeed
  • Grass meal

Methionine2.5g/kg
Starch19.0%

Feeding note: this one is richer and more conditioning-focused than a plain maintenance mix, so it suits blending especially well where you want variety and extra energy density without making the full mix overly heavy.
Baileys Soft & Lite High-fibre, low-starch mix • useful as a lighter base mix in custom blends
🌿 Base Mix

Using Baileys Soft & Lite as a base

Although this was previously positioned as a booster, it also works very nicely as a lighter, fibre-forward base mix component when you want something less rich and less cereal-heavy. It is especially handy in blends that need extra texture, chew time and fibre without pushing starch or sugar too high.

Suggested base mix ratios

  • Balanced blend: 30–50% Baileys Soft & Lite + 50–70% second base mix / nuggets
  • Fibre-forward blend: 40–60% Baileys Soft & Lite + richer or more varied base mixes
  • Selective feeders: pair with a more uniform mix so the overall bowl still feels balanced
Why use it this way? It is a practical option when you want a custom mix to feel lighter, more fibrous and less “treaty” overall.

Why add Baileys Soft & Lite?

  • Boosts fibre and chew time
  • Low starch & sugar compared with many richer mixes
  • Adds texture for foraging-style feeding
  • Helps balance richer, cereal-heavy or more selective blends
